Highlights of the Week (24/25 Term 1 Week 12)

PN

Hey everyone! We’re back this week with a new set of adventures from our PNs, starting with a new shape – the square! We had fun learning about the different things we can find that are square-shaped, and played a Spot the Square game, where we showed our teacher what we had learnt.

We continued our journey through our 5 Senses and explored the world with our noses! We used our noses to discover the sense of smell and had fun finding out about good and bad smells.

We then wrapped up the week with our friends Pippa and Pop and reviewed our vocabulary from Unit 3 – Toys! We practiced using complete sentences when discussing toys and coloured in our books to finish off. Our PNs had such a great adventure this week, and we were so happy to share some of it with our parents during this Observation Week. That’s all for now, see you next time!

K1

This week, our K1 students completed their journey exploring the alphabet by encountering the final letter, Z. During the phonics session, we engaged in tracing and recognizing the letter Z, making learning fun by searching for hidden letters in our classroom.

In our Critical Thinking exercises, the children had a blast with science experiments exploring objects that either 'sink' or 'float' in water. We gathered various items from the classroom and school, observing their behaviors in water firsthand.

Moreover, we enjoyed interactive color games, sorting hues from our mystery box into matching-colored hoops. We also delved into the theme of 'my home,' exploring different rooms within a household and discussing their functions. To reinforce our learning, we shared the captivating story 'Hide and Seek' and created our own house designs, embellishing them with flashcards on the board.

Fantastic work this week, K1!

K2

The change of season was a perfect topic to bring up during our Cambridge lessons as we continued to explore the unit on clothing. It allowed us to discuss how our choice of attire depends on the weather, which varies throughout the year as the seasons change.

This week's Critical Thinking activity, we made Oobleck with our parents. It was messy but entertaining! We explored playing various instruments like the drum, triangle, and ukulele, observing how each instrument produced sound vibrations. The students enjoyed making different sounds and were especially thrilled to witness the visual representation of sound vibrations. One particularly exciting moment was when they emitted loud sounds through a hole in the center of a cup, causing the rice on top to dance around in response!

Furthermore, they were amused hearing their friends' voices through a play telephone made of string and toilet paper roll. Each student took turns speaking and listening, which was very enjoyable!

Overall, we had a fantastic week at school. It was energetic and fun, and we also had the opportunity to share our classroom experiences with our parents, who joined us for some of our lessons. We are eagerly looking forward to what next week will bring!

K3

Welcome back, friends! This week in Critical Thinking has been incredibly exciting for our K3 friends as we began our exploration of the States of Matter. They had a blast discovering and distinguishing between solids, liquids, and gases. It was wonderful to witness our friends generating numerous questions about the properties of these states and how matter transitions from one form to another.

In Maths, we focused on telling time, specifically learning about “a quarter to” on analogue and digital clocks! To help our friends remember which minute hand to use, we incorporated some fun games, and we are thrilled that the kids enjoyed themselves!

For Subtraction, we kicked things off by counting backwards and revisiting the meaning of subtraction (taking away or determining what remains). After that, we moved on to solving subtraction problems within 30. It was inspiring to see our friends growing more comfortable as they grasped the concept.

That wraps up our week! We hope everyone enjoyed reading about our K3 friends' adventures! Until next time!
